Parliamentary boundary changes could see Colchester split apart

Proposals by the Boundary Commission to change the parliamentary boundaries across Colchester would see Lexden and Prettygate move out of the Colchester constituency into Harwich & NE Essex.

I don’t agree with these proposals and have submitted my response (below) at

I read with interest proposed changes to the parliamentary boundaries in my local area and submit my response OBJECTING to initial proposals by the boundary commission.

Lexden and Prettygate wards in Colchester are an integral part of what makes Colchester the historical town it is. Westminster representation should come from the same MP that represents the heart of Colchester, not Harwich.

Viewing the proposals, the proposed boundary changes will create more confusion for local residents as the changes will create a small area of Colchester that flips between three (3) MPs.

As a local Ward Councillor for Stanway I hear the question often why Stanway was excluded from Colchester in the last boundary changes, so understand first hand resident concerns of this nature.

It would be simply wrong to remove Lexden and Prettygate from Colchester representation and ask that further consideration is given to the proposals, to keep these wards in Colchester where constituents can best be served.
